Oli soloing during A Day On Venus gig at The Finsbury

Meet the band

Luke and Schoobs during A Day On Venus gig at The Finsbury

Get to know us!

We’ve all known each other for years as friends and performers before we came together for A Day On Venus.

All of us have played in bands and venues across the UK and beyond, playing all kinds of different styles – our love for so many genres, from jazz and soul, to punk, drum and bass, afrobeat, pop and more brings different ideas and experiences that all feed into our music.

And with 7 members in the band, we create a pretty huge sound on stage…

Tiffany Parker

Vocals

Tiff leads the band with formidable vocals – we all met in the longstanding brass group Full Tilt Collective, but before that she actually studied Musical Theatre!

She’s taken the Full Tilt gang to far-flung locations like Mr Wolfs Bristol, Matt and Phreds Manchester, Scallywag Brighton, Pizza Express Jazz Club, Isle of Wight Festival and more.

Jack Marks

Tuba

Jack is the rock solid bass of the band. Aside from A Day On Venus, you’ll also see him in action in London and beyond with our mates in punk trio New Car Smell – one of their recent highlights was supporting at Ally Pally!

In a previous life he was a founding member of Irish brass group Booka Brass, who performed with Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Hot 8 Brass Band, Lisa Hannigan and others, which makes the rest of us very jealous.

Dave Vigay

Drums

Dave’s musical life has taken him all across Europe, playing in all the best cities to have a holiday – Barcelona, Madrid, Berlin, Rome, Turin and more – playing with rock group The Snake Corps. He’s done Balkan music, jazz and even theatre as MD for ‘Architects’ with artist collective Shunt.

He lives the dream life on a beautiful houseboat in South East London. Ask nicely and he’ll even give you lessons.

Oli Jarvis

Saxophone

Oli plays in so many different settings. He’s been in action everywhere from London Jazz Festival to Glastonbury, and played with groups including The Allergies and London Improvisers’ Orchestra.

But his regular gig (other than us!) is with the Wax Preachers, with whom he’s played at Secret Garden Party, Smoked and Uncut Festival, Bristol Old Market Assembly, Shambala and more.

Luke Bentley

Trombone

Luke has energy levels that others could only dream of. His incredible solos steal the show every time both with us and with his other groups.

You can regularly see him in action with Soul Grenades, with whom he has supported artists including George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic, and Craig Charles, and had airplay on BBC Radio 6. He’s also the absolute favourite guest artist of the Matt and Phreds team in Manchester.

Ali Barker

Trumpet

All of us have played with Full Tilt Collective over the years, but Ali is one of that band’s longest-standing members! He’s been with them through thick and thin, with shows at Isle of Wight Festival, Hogsozzle, Small World, Swingamajig, Shambala and Sunrise Festivals.

Around London you might have seen him at venues like Rich Mix, Blues Kitchen, Jazz Cafe, South London Soul Train, Hootananny Brixton and more.

Nikolaj Schubert

Trumpet

Schoobs plays in a bunch of different groups across London, including rock blues group Mama Moonshine and with Luke in Soul Grenades.

He’s been in action supporting Sister Sledge and George Clinton with Soul Grenades, played in nights at Ronnie Scott’s, Supreme Standards, Albert Hall Manchester and BBC Introducing’s futuretense series at Southbank Centre, and festivals London Jazz, Mostly Jazz, Funk & Soul, and more.
